Son of George Gibson and Ann Knox, daughter of John and Elizabeth Knox. Born 24 Dec. 1800 in North Carolina. Died 23 Sept. 1889 in Giles County, Tennessee. Married Martha unknown, born 18 April 1804 and died 7 March 1876. Brother of George Moore, James Houston, Mary (Gibson Ray), William, Samuel, Patsy (Gibson Dickey), Nancy (Gibson Beal), Anna, and Jane Gibson. (Note: Several of Joseph's siblings left Giles County and migrated to Lawrence County, Missouri)
