son of Thomas VonSickel & Permelia "Millie" Roarick


In 1861 he and his oldest son, Harrison, enlisted in the Third Iowa Calvary, Co. H., under Capt. Jesse Hughes and Col. Bussey, in the autumn of 1863. They re-enlisted at Little Rock, Arkansas, and on the 9th of August, 1865, they were mustered out of service at Atlanta, Georgia, being in actual service for four years, lacking six days.
