Caroline Carter was the oldest daughter of Samuel and Celia A. Cooper Carter. She had a sister, Julia Emaline "Emma" Carter Williams, (F-A-G memorial #31385935, and a brother, Sam Carter. Old family papers suggest that Caroline's grandmother, Susannah Cooper, was 1/2 Cherokee Indian, although this has not been proven.

Mr. Carter passed away when Caroline was quite young. Her mother married again, this time to William Jefferson Lee. Caroline had 3 half-siblings from that union.

Caroline Carter married John W. Watson on August 15, 1865. John Watson's first wife, Sarah Cooper, was Caroline's aunt. Sarah had died in 1864, leaving 3 children behind, which Caroline then helped raise.

Caroline and John W. Watson had 7 of their own children. See the complete listing of those children below.
