Jose Roel "J.R." Amaya II, 24, of Nixon, Texas, passed away on Friday, June 1, 2007, in Guadalupe County.

J.R. was born Nov. 30, 1982, in Alice.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Amaya; maternal grandparents, Jesus and Amada Benavidez; and paternal grandfather, Juan Amaya Sr.

J.R. is survived by his mother, Nancy Benavidez Amaya of Nixon; sisters D'Laine Amaya of Nixon and Leslie Amaya of Seguin; a nephew, Ryan Matthew Paez of Seguin; his paternal grandmother, Bessie Amaya of Nixon; maternal great-grandmother Jean Avalos of San Antonio; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Visitation took place Monday, June 4, from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon with a rosary recited by Deacon John Moreno at 6:30 p.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Nixon.

Father Alfonso Gioppato celebrated a funeral Mass on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Nixon.

Interment followed in the Nixon Latin American Cemetery.
