Mrs. Catherine Hamilton died very suddenly at her home in Raymondville between the hours of 3 and 4 Monday afternoon, March 21st. Mrs. Hamilton had been in feeble health for some time owing to her advanced years, but feeling better than usual had started for a short walk to a nearby neighbor's and when nearly there was seen to fall. Kind friends hastened to her aid and carried her home, but she never regained consciousness, death coming in about fifteen minutes, due to failure of the heart.
Mrs. Hamilton was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Dec 31st, 1828, living to the age of 81 years, 2 months, and 21 days. In her early years she was married in Scotland to Thomas Hamilton. Coming to this country and living for some years in Madrid from there they went to Louisville, purchasing a farm and living there until in their later years they resided in Raymondville. Mr. Hamilton died July 14, 1904. Since then she has been lovingly cared for by her daughter, Margaret, who had remained with her parents.
To Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton were born eleven children, five sons and six daughters. All of them have grown to manhood and womanhood with one exception, a son, Alexander, who died at the age of eleven years.
Those who are left to mourn the loss of a kind and devoted mother are Mrs. John Winslow, of Houstin, Del.; Mrs. Robert Pieson, of Madrid NY; Mrs. George Carr of Waddington NY; Mrs. Lockwood of Ogdensburg; Mrs. F. L. Harrington of Norfolk, Margaret of Raymondville; William F. of Chase Mills; Joseph of Malone; Andrew of Strathcona, Alberta Canada, and Thomas of Chalner Alberta, Canada.
Mrs. Hamilton was a woman of strong personality, a devoted mother and a kind and sympathetic neighbor. She was a consistent member of the Methodist church at Chase Mills for many years. Her funeral services were held from her late home Thursday at 1 o'clock. A large number of friends assembled to do honor to her memory and a profusion of beautiful Easter lilies, carnations, etc were sent as tokens of love by friends and relatives, who gathered to pay their last tribute to one so well and favorably known. Rev. C. E. Woodley conducted the funeral services, speaking comforting words to the bereaved relatives. Mrs. Hamilton was laid to rest by the side of her husband in the Chase Mills Cemetery.
