Delbert Edmund Arterburn 76, of North Platte, died Jan. 2, 1999, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center. He was born on June 6, 1922, at Blue Hill to Harrison And Jessie Arterburn. He grew up in Blue Hill And joined the U.S. Army on Oct. 1942. he served in the Aleutian Islands and received the Good Conduct Metal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Medal and a Bronze Star. After his discharge in Oct. 1945, He moved to North Platte and went to work for the Nash-Finch Company. He worked there for 35 years and became warehouse foreman. He later went to work for Hipp Wholesale for 11 years. He then retired.

On Jan. 8 1945 he married Lois Ann Einspahr in North Platte where they made there home Mr Arterburn was a member of the V.F.W. Post No. 1504 and F.O. Eagles Aerie No. 2839. He was also a past member of the American Legion Post No. 163

Survivors include his wife; a daughter Karen Laird of Largo, Fla.; two sons, Jim (Shirley) and Wayne (Sonia), both of North Platte; and two grandchildren Joshua and Jessica, also of North Platte. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step mother, Esla; two sisters, Lola Haney and Vivian Myers; and a brother Clarence.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C and Sycamore with the Rev. Garry Timmons of GPRMC officiating. Burial will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery with military honors provided by the North Platte Veteran's Honor Guard. Visitations will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 8:30 a.m. to service time Wednesday at Odeans Colonial Chapel at C and Sycamore.

Was member of seven man crew manning 40mm antiaircraft gun. Passed ammunition from cache to loader. Was familiar with all types of jobs incidental to firing of 40mm gun. Assisted in camouflage and concealment of gun. Trained new replacements. Served 20 months in the Aleutian Islands with the 591st American Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion of the 7th Infantry Division. Participated in one campaign; the battle for Attu
