Reference is made to your letter in which you request the Revolutionary War record of Gideon Carr of Albermarle County, Virginia. The data which follow were obtained from papers on file in pension claim, S.3119, based upon the military service of Gideon Carr in the War of the Revolution.
Gideon Carr was born November 5, 1752 in Albermarle County, Virginia. The names of his parents were not given. While residing in said Albemarle County, Gideon Carr served, shortly after the capture of Burgoyne, four months in Colonel Taylor's Virginia regiment, guarding prisoners at Albemarle Barracks. He enlisted in the spring of 1781, and served in Captain Leak's company, Colonel Lindsley's Virginia regiment, marched below Richmond, and was there placed under Captain Hamner and marched up the James River to guard public stores, length of this service two months.
He moved about ten years after the close of the Revolution from Albemarle County, to Dickson County, Tennessee.
The papers on file in this claim contain no reference to the wife or children of the soldier, Gideon Carr. His brother, Meekins Carr, was living in 1833 in Albemarle County, Virginia.
