Funeral Services of Pioneer Kansan to Be Friday From the Home
Funeral services for Peter Laptad, age 85, who died Tuesday at Hampton Roads, Virginia, will be held from the home, 1732 Louisiana street, at 11 o'clock Friday. The Rev. William Butler will have charge of the services, which will be private. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
Peter Laptad was born at Vergennes, Vermont, September 25, 1842. During the Civil War he served as a private in the Fourteenth Vermont Infantry and it was always prominent in his mind that his brigade held the rebel fire at Gettysburg. His second period of service was with the Second Vermont Field artillery.
At the close of the Civil war he came west to Lawrence where for a time he operated a retail business in North Lawrence. He was later in business at Linwood and finally settled on a farm in Grant township. He was married in 1867 to Agnes F. Petrie.
Besides his wife he is survived by five children: Mrs. John Hutt of Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. A. B. Carroll, of Denver, Colo.; and Pearl L. Laptad, Paul Laptad and Evadne Laptad of Lawrence.
