Lionel V. DeRagon, 88, beloved husband of Arlene (McNamee) DeRagon, of Hartford and formerly West Hartford, died on Wednesday (September 17, 2008) at St. Francis Hospital.


Born in New Bedford, MA, the son of the late Sylva and Alexina (Marcoux) DeRagon, he made his home in West Hartford for 35 years. Lionel graduated from Hartford Public High School Class of 1940, served in the U.S. Army, 66th Infantry Division for three years during World War II and was a commercial carpenter with Connecticut Carpenter's Union, Local 43. His favorite past time was genealogy. He was a past president of the French Canadian Genealogical Society of Connecticut.


Besides his wife of 65 years, he is survived by his four children, Cynthia Banta and her husband Norman of Manchester, Michael DeRagon and his wife Louise of Lanesboro, MA, William DeRagon of Albuquerque, NM, Thomas DeRagon and his wife Karen of Royce City, TX; four grandchildren, Renee DeRagon of Pittsfield, MA, James DeRagon and his wife Margaret of New Jersey, Eric Adair and his wife Tammy of Maryland, Sean Adair and his wife Crystal of Texas; his sister-in-law Ida DeRagon of Uncasville; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters.


The Funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 24 at 9:15 a.m. from the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Avenue, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 872 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford.
Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford.
