Dedric Beauron Baxter, 79, of Midland, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at Hospice Midland Inpatient Unit at Midland Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel with David T. Johnson, Associate Pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 19, at the funeral home.

Dedric Beauron was born in Hillsboro, Texas, to Dedric and Ava Myrtle Welch. He grew up and attended schools in Moody and Gatesville, before joining the United States Navy at age 16. While in the Navy, he was selected for the Submarine Service. After his discharge, he attended TCU and graduated with a degree in geology. He moved to Midland in 1956, and began his career as a petroleum geologist. He was a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, West Texas Geological Society, and the Society of Petroleum Earth Scientists. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Midland.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ouita Juanita; his infant daughter, Deidra; and sister, Billye Wayne Jeter.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Verneta Waddill Baxter; niece, Julia Ann Jeter, of Wichita Falls; nephew, Keith Jeter, of Wichita Falls; brothers-in law, Bill Waddill and wife, Diann, and John Waddill and wife, Sandy.
