Civil War veteran. Company H, 2nd Illinois Light Artillery

Died, at 8:30 o'clock Saturday morning, Oct. 3, 1908, at St. John's hospital, Jesse Durbin of this city, aged 78 years, 3 months and 25 days. Deceased was born at Baltimore, Md., and came to this state with his parents at the age 10 years, making his home in Pike county. He was united in marriage to Miss Harriet Nokes at Adams county, removing later to Springfield, where he had resided for the past thirty years. He enlisted in the Ninth Illinois light artillery and served throughout the civil war. He was a member of Stephenson Post No. 30, of the G.A.R.

Surviving him are three daughters, Mrs. M. M. Clark of Beardstown, and Mrs. Edith McDonald and Mrs. Eunice Keys, both of this city; three brothers, Thomas, James and Henry Durbin and four sisters, the Misses Zephie, Frances, Lydia and Anna Durbin.

The remains were removed to the undertaking parlors of Charles T. Bisch & Son and prepared for burial, and will be removed this morning to the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Eunice Keys, 1201 South Seventeenth street, where the funeral will be held at 2:30 o'clock to-morrow afternoon, the Rev. J. Hanley, pastor of Plymouth Congregational church, south, officiating, assisted by Chaplain J. M. Stevenson, chaplain of Stephenson Post No. 30, G. A. R., of which he was a member. The members of the G. A.R. will attend the services in a body. The interment will be made in Oak Ridge cemetery. IL State Register, Springfield, IL 10-4-1908
