Emeline, known as Emma, was the eldest daughter of John and Martha Wheeler. She came to Matagorda County, Texas with her father and his large family in 1840. Her mother had died in Mississippi during 1836 from complications of childbirth. Emma first married James Pirie, a colonist in the Republic of Texas. Her father, John, presided as Justice of the Peace at the ceremony in Matagorda County. Emma and James Pirie had four children, John Marshall, William, Eliza Jane, and James Alexander. William and Eliza died very early in life. After James Pirie's passing, Emma married Jesse Jones. They had one son, William Adkins Jones, who is buried near them in Mt. Olive Cemetery.
