"Founder of trucking firm dead at 89; rites Friday"
"Rex E. Myers of 1228 Taylor St., Eugene, founder of the Rex Myers Transfer Co. of Springfield and a Eugene resident since 1900, died Wednesday at the Valley West Retirement Center. He was 89.
Myers was born Feb. 29, 1884 in Kansas. After coming to Eugene he started the transfer company and operated it until 1954 when he sold to Darwin Baxter and retired. He was a member of the First Christian Chuirch of Eugene.
He is survived by two daughters, Pearl Hansen of Reno, Nev. and Ruth Calhoun of Eugene; a son, Lester of Cottage Grove; a brother and sister, Leon L. Myers of California and Verna Shook of Seattle; six grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren.
His wife, Eugenia, and a son, Walter, preceded him in death.
The funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. in the Lounsbury-Musgrove Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the First Christian Church."
He married Eugenia Snow, daughter of Maryette/Mariette Snow
