Birth: Sep. 24, 1828
Kentucky, USA
Death: Mar. 1, 1901

Peter Thornton Boatman died at his home in Clifton City Saturday, March 2d and was buried the following day at Pleasant Green. Deceased was born in Kentucky 73 years ago, was left an orphan when very young, and brought to Cooper when seven years old. He was raised by the Cockrell family and grew up to be a sturdy, and self-reliant young man. He was twice married. His first wife was Miss Rebecca Brownfield, and to this union was born eight sons and daughters, all of whom are living. They are W.F., of Oakland, Io,; J.G., of Anthon, Io.; C.O. Boatman and Nancy Jones of Spencer, Io.; Thomas and Samuel Boatman and Mrs. Mollie Ball, of Clifton City; and Mrs. Ailcy O'Bannon, of Pleasant Green. His second wife was Mrs. Frankie Ellis, who survives him.
All of these children were present at the burial. J.G. Boatman missed the train at Sedalia and drove from there to Pleasant Green, reaching the cemetery just as the body of his father was being lowered into the grave.
Squire Boatman had resided nearly all his long life in the neighborhood where he died and had been a justice of the peace continuously for twenty-eight years. He was a member of the Methodist church and most excellent man. No better type of the old time pioneer gentleman could be found in Missouri.

Booneville Weekly Advertiser March 8, 1901 page 1 column 1

(Primary documentation exists proving Peter was married three times. Also, his headstone records his date of death as 1 March 1901)
