He married Mary Jane Scott on 16 November 1858 in Wabash County, Indiana. They were the parents of 2 children: Diantha and Perry.

Sabin was mustered in 16 August 1862 in Wabash, Indiana. He served with the 101st Regiment Infantry, Company K as a Private.
