William Jefferson Greer was born in Farmerville, Louisiana to Wesley Robert Greer and Mary Frances Cox. His family moved to Texas during the winter of 1853-1854. He married Mollie Ann French April 5, 1866 in Burnet County, Texas and had five girls. Mollie died in 1882 (buried at Hye, Texas). He married Mary Ann Banta February 11, 1882 in Mills County, Texas. She had four children from a previous marriage to John Thomas Mitchell. William Jefferson and Mary Ann had nine children.
