A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Effingham, with the Rev. Ted Gall officiating. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society. Weber and Rodney Funeral Home, Edwardsville, is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Covalt was born Sept. 30, 1952, in Effingham, the daughter of Charles and Regina "Rea" (Melzer) Esch. She was employed at Elmwood Health Care Center, Maryville, as a psychiatric counselor. Mrs. Covalt was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Edwardsville, and graduated from Effingham High School in 1970, Eastern Illinois University in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville with a master's degree in education.
Survivors include her brother, Robert W. (Candace) Esch of Alhambra; aunt, Lois Newsom of Corona, Calif.; and niece, Elizabeth Esch of Urbana. She was preceded in death by her parents.
