Daniel C. Eldridge
Daniel C. Eldridge was born in New York state, near Albany, Jan. 24, 1842, and died at the Wesley hospital, Wichita, Kan., Jan. 16, 1929; aged 86 years, 11 months and 14, days.
He was united in marriage to Ellen Vedder, Sept. 1, 1866, at Berlin, Wis.,, and to this union were born three, children, Frank D., of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Nellie Ekstrom, of Wayne, Kan.; Mrs. Nettie Shepard, of Wichita, Kan.
He answered his country's call and served 4 years in the Civil war, with the 16th Wisconsin receiving an honorable discharge from same. He loved the old flag and always bore it on memorial days.
In March, 1885, he moved his family to Wayne, Kan., and engaged in the mercantile business for 29 years and maintained his home there until the death of his wife broke up the home. Since then he has divided his time with his children.
He was a kind and loving husband, father and friend, and his whole life was devoted to his home, wife and children, and his upright business and social life was in accordance with his Christian belief and loving nature. He was a member of the Wayne M. E. church (sic), and a willing worker in the church and civic developments. He was a charter member of Wayne Oddfellows (sic) lodge No. 366 and was a faithful member through life. He was also a charter member of the Rebecca lodge No. 275.
Funeral services from the M. E. church at Wayne, Kan., Friday, Jan. 18. Interment in Union cemetery (sic). I.O.O.F. services at the grave. Miss Winnie Gabrielson had charge of the services at the church.
