She was born in Lafayette, Indiana to George and Cena Brink Plantenga. She married John T. Agnew and they had 4 children, Daniel Thomas, Carol Frances, Susan Lee and James William. The family moved from Lafayette to Upper Darby, PA, where her husband preceded her in death on August 28, 1969. Martha had his body ret'd for burial to Lafayette and moved herself and children back there. Martha successfully overcame many life challenges. She loved her children and grandchildren and delighted in Purdue basketball.
