United States Navy Admiral, Central Intelligence Director. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland in 1919 and remained in the United States Navy until his retirement in 1957, rising to the rank of Vice Admiral. In 1947 he was appointed the first director of the Central Intelligence Agency by President S Harry Truman. He served in that capacity from 1947 to 1950. (bio by: Erik Lander)
