Albert Colwell Steere was one of Shreveport's foremost real estate developers before his death in 1930 at age 50. Steere developed the South Highlands, Glen Iris, Broadmoor, Dixie Gardens, and Hollywood neighborhoods as well as portions of Highland and other areas. A. C. Steere Elementary School and Albert, Colwell, and Steere streets in the Broadmoor neighborhood of Shreveport are named for him.
