Lulu Jo (Jo) [one learned quickly to call her Jo not Lulu Jo] Ingalls was born June 24 1922 on the Tilly farm in the Lincoln Creek Valley, Lewis County, Washington. She was the second daughter of Guy Gibson Ingalls and Myrtle Isabel (Bunker} Ingalls. Jo grew up in Galvin, Washington where her father owned and operated a garage and gas station. She attended Galvin and Lincoln Creek grade schools and graduated from Centralia High School with the class of 1940.

Jo married Ralph Lloyd Benton on May 5 1946 in Olympia, Washington and they were together until Ralphs death on December 4 2002. They lived in Corvallis, Oregon where all three of their children were born and after a couple of years spent in Centralia, Washington returned to Corvallis until March 1964 when they moved to Kennewick, Washington. The move was precipitated by the desire to own their own business with the purchase of Campbell's Paint and Janitorial at 217 1/2 West Kennewick Avenue in downtown Kennewick. Jo knew almost nothing about paint and wallpaper in 1964 but when they retired and closed the business in July 1987 she had become an expert in the subject. Jo and Ralph both remained active members of the Downtown Kennewick - Columbia Drive Association and in 1992 received the Associations Downtowner of the Year Award. Jo served on the Boards for the Kennewick Chamber of Commerce and the Benton County Historical Society.

Jo passed 23 April 2005 after a short battle against cancer. Jo was a patient at Eagle Assisted Living in Richland, Washington at the time of her death and maintained the family residence in Kennewick. The day before she passed she remarked that "she would be with Ralph on his birthday (27 April)."

Jo was preceded in death by her parents and husband Ralph. She is survived by sons Bruce Benton and wife Norene; Marc Benton and wife Chris; daughter Chris (Benton) Vogel and husband Bob. Grandchildren Lori Harris, Gary Benton, David and Joshua Vogel, Michelle Craven, Tracy Keesler, and Becky Watson. Great-grandchildren Iva Harris, Nicholas Craven, and Cyan Martinez-Benton. Also her two sisters Susan (Sue) Balfour and her husband Jay, Jacqueline (Jackie) Hoerling and her husband Bob, and numerous nieces and nephews along with many loving friends.
