Frances A. Schumacher , age 95, of Sleepy Eye, died on Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at Sleepy Eye Medical Center.

Visitation will be at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye on Wednesday from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Visitation will continue at the Church of the Japanese Martyrs on Wednesday from 9:30 to 11 a.m.

Service will be held at Church of the Japanese Martyrs, Leavenworth on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004 at 11 a.m., with interment Japanese Martyrs Cemetery.

Frances was born on April 6, 1909, in Racine, Wis., the daughter of John and Anna (Nehrn) Poss. She married Benjamin M. Schumacher on May 21, 1929, in Ashton, Iowa. They lived and farmed for 36 years on the home place. They moved to a new site in 1965 and later moved to Countryside Apartments in 1993. Frances was a member of Church of the Japanese Martyrs and was active in many church related activities, receiving several awards for her involvement. In her younger years she also enjoyed helping entertain at Divine Providence. Playing games with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was a great joy for her, as was entertaining visitors to her home. Other interests and talents included sewing, gardening, painting and writing.

Survivors include daughter, Doris Johnson of Roseville; son, Clifford and Bernette of Sleepy Eye; daughter-in-law, Lenora Schumacher of Sleepy Eye; son, Sylvan and Donna Schumacher of Sleepy Eye; son, Gene and Marguerite of Emily; daughter-in-law, Carol Schumacher of Sleepy Eye; son, Bernard and Kathy of Warba; daughter, Susan and Jeff Pelzel of Sleepy Eye; 32 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; and sister, Rose Windschitl of Leavenworth.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ben; sons, Robert, Marvin, Jack; son-in-law, Robert Johnson; two great-grandsons; four brothers; and two sisters.
