A memorial service for Lester D. McAlister will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Ranfranz & Vine Funeral Homes in Rochester, with the Rev. Paul Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Mr. McAlister, 80, of Rochester, died Monday (Sept. 1, 2008) at Saint Marys Hospital.

Born March 5, 1928, in Lincoln, Neb., he attended rural schools in Lincoln and high school in West Concord. On June 2, 1951, he married Doris Carroll in White Bear Lake, Minn.

Mr. McAlister worked in maintenance for Rochester Methodist Hospital and also farmed in the Grand Meadow, Rock Dell and Pine Island areas. He and his wife moved to Rochester in 2004. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rochester and enjoyed hunting, playing cards, and woodworking.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mark (Jackye) of Plymouth, Minn., and Steven of Rochester; two daughters, Christine McAlister and Mary McAlister (husband, Kevin Peterson), both of Rochester; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Hersel (Elaine) of Sacramento, Calif.; and a sister, Sue (Michael) Kuruzovich of Rochester. He was preceded in death by his parents, Silas and Irva (Holcomb) McAlister; two brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at Ranfranz & Vine Funeral Homes.
