Sgt Dewey H. Sampson was a soldier in Company A 180th Infantry Regiment 45th Infantry Division. He was severely wounded in action in Sicily and died of his sustained wounds on 17 July 1943. He was first buried in a fieldgrave that same day. Sgt Sampson was reburied in the temporary AmericN GELA Cemetery (Sicily) in grave B-20-231 on 3 August 1943.

After the war his remains were repatriated and reburied in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Checotah, Oklahoma.

Over 1,200 men and women were buried at GELA. I am writing a book about this cemetery and hope to have it finished next year (2013).
