Born at home 1317 Ridenbaugh at 11:40 PM by Dr. Toothaker. Graduated Central High School St. Joseph, Missouri 1940. Member Kappa Alpha Psi. Was 1st. Baptist, St. Joseph, Mo. and converted to Roman Catholic November 1942, Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. Changed name to Blair Xavier Carmichael. Served in U.S. ARMY, World War II. Serv. #37240048 Troop B, 4th Cavalry, Recon Squadron. 759th Light Tank Battalion, B Company. Campaigns - Normandy, France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. Rank - 1st Sergeant.
Married Betty Ann Hopkins in St. Joseph, Missouri June 22, 1946. 1947 -AS Biology, St. Joseph College. Moved to Fulton 1949. Worked at Fulton State Hospital till 1958. Bought Farm in Calwood, Missouri in 1953. AB Animal Husbandry, Genetics, University Of Missouri, Columbia 1953. Was a licensed pilot, single engine aircraft. Owned two planes, Luscombe and an Aeronca. Worked as laboratory technician at Fulton Memorial Hospital from 1958 - 1964. Bought house at 720 Hollyhock Drive 65251 on December 1, 1963. Worked Harbison Walker fire brick factory. Asst. To Asst. Fireman on Kilns 1965. 1966 Lab Tech & X-Ray At Hill & Groce Clinic, retired May 1989.
During his life he had many pets and hobbies. As a child he had a spider monkey named Hoagy (Hoagy Carmichael), dogs, racing pigeons and horses. After the purchase of the 144 acre farm in Calwood, raised swine, sheep, Fox hounds, Coon hounds, Border Collies and honey bees. While living at 720 Hollyhock, An avid falconer, he had at one time six birds of prey, including the first Red Tailed Hawk born in captivity, "Rufus" at the University of Missouri. American Kestrels, Prairie Falcons, Harris Hawks, a Goshawk and two Lagger Falcons.
An active member of the University of Missouri Astronomy club where he and his fellow members assisted NASA with calculating the altitude of the mountains on the moon for the Apollo space missions in the 1960's.
November 2000. Blair Xavier Carmichael died from Cholangiocarcinoma. He was in stage IV of the cancer of the bile ducts (aka Adenocarcinoma) when he was diagnosed.
