OBITUARY: K. M. Russell, Retired Educator, Succumbs" Franklin: Karl M. Russell, 88, of 840 Liberty St, former principal of Franklin High School and a teacher for many years, DIED at 3:20 p.m. Tuesday, in Franklin Hospital. / Born at Guys Mills, Crawford County, June 21, 1885, he was a son of Charles and Zora Monroe Russell. He attended Edinboro State Teachers College, Pennsylvania State University, Grove City College, and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, where he later was awarded a master's degree. / Earlier in his career as an educator he had taught in Crawford and Erie County schools. He was principal of the old Union School Building in Franklin prior to becoming high school principal. / Mr. Russell was married three times. His first two wives, the former Orma Gray and the former Ethel Bertrum, are deceased. He was married February 6 1953, to the former Mable Shaffer Decker, who survives. / He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Franklin and teacher of the Baraca Class of the church for many years. / Mr. Russell was a 50-year member of Covenant Lodge 473, F, & A.M., in Cambridge Springs and the Coudersport Consistory. an honorary member of the Kiwanis Club, he was a past lieutenant-governor and a past lieutenant govenor of the Franklin Kiwanis Club. / He was a member of the Vanango County Retired Teachers Association and the State and National Retired Teachers Associations. / Surviving along with his wife, Mrs. Mable Russell, are a son, Willard Decker [NOTE: Willard is a stepson, d/o of Mabel and Gerald Decker] , and a daughter, Mrs, W A. [Marjorie] Donaldson [NOTE: Marjorie was the daughter of Gerald Decker [Mabel's first husband, and his first wife, Esther Billig]- both of Port Arthur Texas; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. / A sister is deceased. / Friends may call from 7 to 9 pm today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Thursday at the Burger Gardimer Funeral Home where funeral services will be held at 2 pm Friday. Dr. Clarence Baldwin pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will officiate. / Interment will be in the North Richmond Cemetery in Crawford County.
