|Birth: ||Aug. 21, 1906|
|Death: ||Jan. 28, 1931|
Son of William Walter Cooper and Amanda Saphronia Norwood Cooper.
Husband of Thelma Norean Sides Cooper.
Father of William Heflin Cooper, Dorothy Earline Cooper and Tommie Mae Cooper.
Tommy, whose baby daughter was named after him, died as a very young husband and father only 24 years old. He was a miner, and suffered a broken back in the mine when a large timber fell on him, just before his youngest child Tommie Mae was born.
In those days hospital visitation was severely restricted, and even though Tommy was not going to survive his injuries and had never held his baby girl, she was not permitted in.
His wife (my beautiful mother, who related this story to me) was not to be outdone and tucked her newborn under her big overcoat and walked right into the hospital and past the staff to her husband's room where he held his little girl and told her he loved her. He smiled and said to his wife, Thelma, "She's the prettiest one yet..."
It would be his only opportunity to hold and love his baby who was only a few weeks old when he died.
Rest in God's peace, Tommy.
THANK YOU from my heart to LoMarie for her generous and thoughtful gift of sponsorship for Tommy's memorial. You are a Blessing to so many people, Lo.
