George was the son of William and Nancy Ann (Courtney) Ward.

He married 1st Mary Ann Hockathorn, 27 December 1810, in Pickaway County, Ohio. After her death in 1830, George married Sarah Cross.

Children of George and Mary Ann are: Daniel Ward, William Ward, Elizabeth (Ward) Hanaway Shanafelt Reynolds, [twin] Wesley Ward, [twin] David Ward, Eve (Ward) Keiger and Jefferson.

All of these children are listed in George's Will when probated in 1847. 2nd wife Sarah is listed as his Widow, son William lives in Pickaway County, daughter Elizabeth is widow of Henry Shanafelt of Indiana, and daughter Eve, wife of William [Jeremiah] Keiger, has died leaving an infant daughter named Sarah Ann Keiger.

Daughter Elizabeth married John Hanaway 28 Apr 1831; they had one son, Francis Hanaway/Hanway. John dies and is most likely buried: Holderman-Halderman-Strode-Wasem-McCray Cemetery, Fairfield Co., Ohio. Elizabeth then marries Henry Shanafelt (born Maryland, moved to Fairfield Co., Ohio where his wife died leaving five children) on 7 Jun 1838, Fairfield Co. They had a son, Wesley Shanafelt and head for Morgan Co., Ind. where they have a son, George Shanafelt. Young Francis Hanway was left in Ohio with Sarah Ward, Elizabeth's step-mother. Once in Indiana, Henry leaves the five children by his first marriage with his sister while he, Elizabeth and their two sons head for Keokuk Co., Iowa where they have a daughter named Eliza Shanafelt. Henry dies soon after her birth 1843-1846. Elizabeth then marries Charles Reynolds and they have William and Mary Reynolds. After Mr. Reynolds death, she may have married a William Morgan.

Daughter Eve "Evy" married Jeremiah Keiger/Kiger 27 Oct 1842, Fairfield Co. Together they have a daughter Sarah Ann Kiger born c.a. 1845 and a son Jeremiah, Jr. who died at 6 weeks on 19 May 1846 and Eve died two months later in July 1846. Eve and baby Jeremiah are buried Holderman-Halderman-Strode-Wasem-McCray Cemetery, Lancaster, Fairfield Co. Unsure what became of Jeremiah Sr. but little Sarah Ann Kiger was reared by her Grandparents William and Christianna Kiger.
