daughter of Allen James Burks and Elizabeth Townsend
Delila lived in Kentucky until 1827, when her family moved to Putnam County, Indiana. She married James Denny June 30, 1835 in Putnam County, and she was the mother of Elizabeth, Mary Jane, Harvey, Elisha Allen, and Jeneatta Ann.
In the winter of 1847/48 her husband caught pneumonia while working as a millwright on a mill near Spring Cave. He died Feb. 23, 1848, leaving her with five young children, 8 months to 12 years, to support. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Her son Harvey remembered her as being a woman of exceptional endurance and having an abundance of christian fortitude. She wove and spun to make a living. Delila also helped care for her elderly father, Allen Burks.
She died at the home of her son Harvey, who lived in the back of his general store in Cloverdale, Indiana.
