Harry A. Besaw Sr was born July 13, 1911, in Bigelow, a son of Joseph and Sarah Earls Besaw. He attended Richville district schools.
He married Lena I. Durham Oct. 5, 1937, in Russell.
He enlisted in the Army on Dec. 19, 1944, served in the Asiatic Pacific campaign and fought in the liberation of the Philippine Islands. He received the American Service Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal, prior to his discharge on Jan. 12, 1946.
Mr. and Mrs Besaw lived in the Gouverneur area after the war and moved to Dekalb in 1950, Kendrew Corners in 1957 and Ogdensburg in 1975.
Mrs. Besaw died May. 23, 1992.
Mr. Besaw did farm, construction work along the St. Lawrence Seaway. He worked for the Natural Dam Paper Mill, Natural Dam. He worked for the Cash Montroy Blacktop Paving Co. for 12 years, retiring in 1973.
He was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Gouverneur.
