Married William Curry, Jan. 30, 1930
"Services were held Tuesday at the Welty mausoleum in Maple Grove cemetery here for Mrs. Ethel Welty Curry, of St. Joseph. Mrs. Curry, who was 78 years old, died Sunday, in a hospital there, where she had been a patient the past six days. She had been an invalid for several years.
She was the widow of Will Curry, who at one time was editor of the Holt County Sentinel. A daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Welty of Oregon, she has shown her interest for Oregon in many ways. The new brick building, which houses the Oregon Public Library, was a gift of Mrs. Curry, as was Welty Park and the adjoining athletic field.
She was a graduate of Vassar College, and had traveled widely both in this country and aboard. She had long been a member of the Runcie Club, Women's Press Club, and the St. Joseph Country Club. She had been an active worker in Republican politics. She was interested in many charities.
Services were conducted by Rev. John W. Cowan, at the Meierhoffer-Fleeman Chapel in St. Joseph at 10:30, Tuesday morning. Honorary pallbearers were R. L. Douglas, Robert B. Orr, John Wyeth, T. W. Dodd, all of St. Joseph; A. M. Brown, E.E. Richards, Guy Cummins of Oregon and Frank Walker of Bigelow.
Following the service at the Oregon Cemetery, coffee was served by members of the Adelpha Club at the Library Building, to relatives and friends who come from a distance. The improvement and the upkeep of Welty Park is a Project of the Adelpha's."
