"Alfred Jorgensen was born July 7, 1868 at Boornhalm Island, Denmark, and passed away Jan 5, 1951, at the age of 82 years. He came to America in the year 1888 and settled in Illinois. In the year 1892 he came to Iowa and worked on a farm a few years for the late Fred Sheffield. In the year 1900 on September 26, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Namanny at Rockwell City, Iowa. They started housekeeping on the farm near Lanesboro which they still own and which is now occupied by their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Berns. After living on the farm for 44 years, they retired and moved to their present home in Lanesboro which they occupied for 6 years.
To Mr. and Mrs. Jorgensen were born four children, three girls and one son. They are Mrs. Roy McMullen, (Mae) of Mankato, Minn., Ralph Jorgensen of Lanesboro and Mrs. Elmer Berns (Ella Bell) Lanesboro. One daughter, Violet Jorgensen passed away Jan 11, 1929. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, the two daughters and one son mentioned and four grandsons, Dean McMullen who is serving with the 8th army in Korea, Keith McMullen of Mankato, Minn., Donald Jorgensen and Jorn Edward Berns of Lanesboro.
Mr. Jorgensen was of a family of three brothers and one sister, all of who are deceased. He was a kind and loving father and friend and loved his home and family. He will be greatly missed in the home and his circle of friends. Last September 24th, Mr. and Mrs. Jorgensen celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary at their home and open house was held during the afternoon.
He was confirmed in the Lutheran church in Denmark and later joined with the Methodist church in Lanesboro. Funeral services were held in Lanesboro church Monday at 2 o'clock with Rev. Clyde King conducting the services. Mrs. Dean Meyer and Mrs. John Eldon Toyne sang and Mrs. John Wegner accompanied at the piano. The pall bearers were Charles McClue, Byron McClue, John Wegner, S.C. Zimbeck, Monroe Streeter and Carl Miller. Burial was made in the Lanesboro Cemetery.
