Joseph C. Dickson served in the Civil War as a Private in Co. A, 88th Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He was the son of James Dickson and Ann Norris and the husband of Nancy Oatman, 1827-aft1882.
From the Decatur Daily Republican, Decatur, IL, May, 1882:
"Last night Joseph C. Dickson, who served in the late (Civil) war as a private soldier in Co. A, 88th Indiana Volunteer Infantry, died at the family residence...The deceased was also a Mexican war veteran."
Note: Obituary also mentioned he was interred at Greenwood Cemetery and left a widow and two children. However, all other sources state that the burial took place at Mt. Gilead Cemetery rather than Greenwood.
