ADAM KEITH
Son of Adam and Martha (Good) Keith, deceased, was born in Indiana county, Pa., July 1, 1837. He was married first in 1867, in Cambria county, Pa., to Elizabeth O'Shall, who was born in Cambria county, Pa., in 1849; her father, Jesse O'Shall, is deceased, but her mother, Nancy (Bears), is still spared. One child blessed this marriage, John H. He was married secondly to Susan Hollis, whose parents, Wm. and Susan (Boring) Hollis, are deceased. These childreen were born to this union, Rebecca, William H., Samuel, Alice, Lizzie, Eugene and Edith, dec. Comrade Keith served in Co. I, 54th Pa. V. I., and rendered some important service during that trying time; he was 22 years of age when he was enrolled August, 1861, at Harrisburg, Pa. In 1863 he was stricken with dysentery and was cared for in hospital two months, and the following year for three months at Point of Rocks, Va. In December, 1863, he was honorably discharged at Springfield, Va., to re-enlist as a veteran and was given the usual thirty day furlough. He bore conspicuous part in the battles of New Market, Piedmont, Lynchburg, Snicker's Gap, 2d Petersburg, Winchester, Cedar Creek and several others, receiving an honorable discharge July 15, 1865, at Harrisburg, Pa. His present wife's father served in the war of 1812. Jacob, Jeremiah and John, his brothers, were in the late war. Comrade Keith is a member of G. A. R. Post, No. 40, located at Cherry Tree, Indiana Co., Pa.; his occupation is that of a farmer and his address is Grip, Pa.
