Death: May 27, 1955

Bill, son of the late John & Johanna Leebens, spent his entire life in this community. Here he attended school, here he played and worked, here he engaged in business, and here he was married. Bill led a varied and versatile life. For a time he engaged in the hardware business; then he engaged in commercial fishing; later he conducted a confectionary and ice cream store, and more recently a grocery store from which business he retired last October.

For a dozen years or more Bill had been in failing health. But his illness never prevented him from caring for his business, nor enjoying his outdoor activities. He was an ardent hunter, loved to hunt water fowl and field birds, and deer up north. With his hunting he combined ample fishing and was most happy when he had "a line in the water." A week ago Bill began to weaken noticeably & he was taken to the Slayton hospital where his death occurred.

In addition to his other work, Bill served for 20 years as secretary of the Murray County Fair, for 25 years as secretary of the Prairie Hill Cemetery Association, and for a term on the Village Council. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and of the Fulda Masonic Lodge.

Bill was united in marriage to Mae Atwood on May 22, 1912 and they made their one home in Fulda. Bill & Mae are the parents of two daughters; Mrs. Ora (Jorgen) Jensen of Rochester, and Mrs. Virginia (Dean) Scheid of Mountain Lake.

Bill's siblings include George of Fulda, John of Minneapolis, Martha Oolman of Fulda, and Johanna Clutter of Los Angeles.

Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian Church on Sunday with the Rev. Jack Hart officiating.
