| Birth: | 904 | | Death: | Aug. 2, 924 | English Royalty. Born the seventh child of Eadward I "the Elder", King of Wessex and his second wife, Aelflaed. His position in the succession has long been debated due to the brevity of his reign. A 12th-century list of West-Saxon kings, a document called Tectus Roffensis, mentions him as his father's successor, with a reign of four weeks, however, some modern historians suggest he and his elder half-brother, Aethelstan, succeeded jointly with Aethelstan ruling Mercia and Aelfweard Wessex. The Anglo Saxon Chronicle recorded that Aelfweard died at about age 20, only sixteen days after his father's death, and the two were buried together at Winchester. (bio by: Iola)
