After an Illness of several months with stomach trouble Mrs Katherine Bates, widow of E H Bates, died Sunday at 9 p.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs Fred E O'Mara, 717 North Eleventh street. She was born in Delphi fifty-two years ago. Her maiden name was Miss Katherine Sexton. Her girlhood days were spent in West Lebanon. She was married to E H Bates thirty year ago. Mrs Bates was possessed of a sweet and cheerful disposition and was admired by all who knew her. She is survived by the following children: Harry and Thomas Bates, of Chicago, and Mrs Fred O'Mara of this city. She also leaves the following brothers and sisters; John and Patrick Sexton, of West Lebanon; Thomas and James Sexton, of Potomac, Illinois; Peter Sexton of Penfield, Illinois, and Mrs James Grady, of this city. A granddaughter, Katherine O'Mara, also lives in Lafayette. Mrs Bates was a member of St Lawrence church and was a true Christian. The funeral was held Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock from St Lawrence Church and interment was in St Boniface cemetery.
