My dad William or "Bill" was born in Maxwell California to parents Ethel and William in 1924. He had an older sister named June who passed away before he was born at age three. Dad was a WW2 veteran, joining the army at 17. Bill was awarded several medals for his service, including the purple heart and other medals for bravery. After getting out of the army, he met and married his sweetheart, my mom, Margaret Oberg in 1946. They settled in Oakland California and went on to have three children. Bill was a talented man who had many abilities and was very good with his hands. Dad was such a loving father. He was a man with deep convictions and very strong beliefs. Dad was a very sentimental man, and he loved to give everyone nicknames. He also had a special love for dogs, which he passed onto me. Though Bill started off being trained as a Dental tech, he went on to become a successful dairy man. He started off delivering milk back when home delivery existed, and then worked his way up to head plant supervisor. Bill would work for a few dairies at this capacity. Along with his job, he would assist his wife, Margaret, my mother, in her own market research firm. Sadly, Dad became ill and passed away at the younger age of 57 in 1982. Due to an illness, he had been told that he would most likely not live very long by his doctor, but Dad kept it from his family because he didn't want to stress us out. He also didn't want to be treated any different. Dad was a deeply loved father and grandfather, and the loss of his presence so early in life was most difficult and very sad for his family. Dad is so very missed, he was truly a wonderful father.
