Mother of Russell, Gordon, & Arlene.

Helen's grandmother Mary (Kuhn) Duffy, owned the home at 568 Beaubien in which Helen was born. It was a long narrow single story house which widowed Mary shared with her two married sons, Edward & Benjamin and their families. Mary occupied the front portion of the house, the Ben Duffy family, wife Emma, children Norman, Marie, Helen and Earl, occupied the middle third, and the Ed Duffy family the remaining third.

By the time grandmother Mary (Kuhn) had died in 02 June of 1904, the Ed Duffy family had moved to 1410 Brusch street, a rental property which among others was owned by Mary.
The Ben & Emma family were now the only occupants of their newly inherited home on Beaubien street.
While living at the Beaubien address, between Watson & Erskin, Helen recalls her mother would, on weekends, give her and little brother Earl each a 3 cent ticket so they could ride the 'Belt Line' streetcar which passed by their house, . . . they would ride for hours at a time waving to their friends as they rode past.

Winters were Helen's least favorite season, and dearly loved the wormth of summer. Mom had a green thumb, her vegetable gardens were nearly as beautiful to look at as the gorgeous flowers she raised, . . . roses, irises, and lilacs being the most profuse

In the eyes and hearts of all, Helen was recognized as a devoted wife, a great mother, a quiet helper to those in need, a friend to any stray animal lucky enough to come to her door, and the magnet that kept her family a tight-knit group, leaving behind many precious memories for her survivors.
