Riely Jacoby, 78
Commits Suicide

Riley A. Jacoby, 78 of 334 Sixth Avenue SW committed suicide by hanging at his home Sunday according to Linn County Coroner T. Frank Hersch.
The body was found by his daughter, Mrs. June Turner, who lives at the same address, when she returned home from a visit about 7 p.m. Sunday.
Mrs. Turner told police she had left the house about 2 p.m. to visit her brother, Paul Jacoby, 109 Fifth Street SW.
Police said Jacoby hanged himself with a clothes line which he had tied to a nail in the wall. The body was on the floor when police arrived, the weight of the body having broken the rope.
Relatives told detectives Jacoby had been under a doctor's care for some time but had not seemed particular despondent.
Mr. Jacoby was born February 2, 1871 in Indiana and was married to Mildred Mae Stone on July 3, 1901 at Olin, Iowa. He was a resident of Cedar Rapids for 17 years and had been employed by the Troy Laundry for the last three years.
Surviving are two sons, Paul Jacoby and Jesse Jacoby both of Cedar Rapids; two daughters; Mrs Tom Boleyn of Oelwein, and Mrs. Joseph B. Turner, of Cedar Rapids; two brothers Clarence Jacoby of Vinton and Joe Jacoby of St. Joseph, Missouri; three sisters; Mrs. Nels Stimpson of Stanley, Mrs. Harry Turck of Bonderant, and Mrs. Jane Rue of Vinton and 29 grandchildren.
Mr. Jacoby was member of United Brethren Church.
Services will be conducted in the Turner Chapel at 1 p.m. Wednesday by the Rev. Frank Ward Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein, Iowa Friends may call at the chapel.
