Raynesford-area rancher Frank Skites, 87, a former real estate broker in Great Falls, died of natural causes Friday Aug 8, 2008 at Peace Hospice.
Frank F. Skites was born Aug. 21, 1920, in Raynesford, Mont., to Anthony and Teresa (Namen) Skites. He was proud to be purebred Lithuanian. He went into real estate in his early 20's, and studied to become one of the first real estate brokers in Great Falls. He owned and developed Sunrise Terrance Addition from 38th Street to Malmstrom Air Force Base.
In 1963, he left real estate in Great Falls to pursue ranching on the family homestead as well as the additional land he acquired. Later, his wife, son and daughter became involved in the operation of the ranch. He worked hard and paid as he went, yet never hesitated to help someone in need. He believed in being a good neighbor, good husband and good parent.
He was a self-made man and at the end, he really was one of the last of the cowboys.
Survivors include a son, Stephen (Andrea) Skites of Raynesford; a daughter, Stephani Skites (Gordon) Scott of Floweree; a sister, Helen Bailey of San Jose, Calif.; and a half sister, Dolores Wiederrick of Havre.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian G. "Billie" Skites, on May 10; sisters Rozan Ide and Lillian O'Neil; a half sister, Mary Alice Johnson; and a half brother, William Regan Jr.
Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
