Grace was born on a farm near Washington, Iowa to Albert and Eveline (Tucker) Hesseltine. She attended country school through eighth grade, then high school in Washington/Crawfordsville, Iowa. After graduation she obtained a teacher's certificate to teach in a country school for two years. Then Grace was awarded a scholarship to Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio where she received her Teacher's Degree.

Grace married Clarence Earl Sackett on May 20, 1928.

They had three children:
Roger Alan, Ruth Eleanor, and Carol Lynn.

Grace taught fourth & sixth grade students in Frenchburg, KY plus several public schools in Iowa with the last being the State Juvenile Home in Toledo, Iowa until her retirement in 1968. Grace was active in her Methodist church as a Sunday School and bible school teacher, on church circle & bible study groups. She also held office in the Tama Chapter 424 Order of Eastern Star.Grace was one of five brothers & sisters plus she had four step-brothers.
She lived in the same home in Tama, Iowa for 50 years when she moved into Oakcrest Retirement Center in DeKalb,Illinois in June 1984. She passed away at Oakcrest Health Center in Illinois.
