Fulton Telegraph-1887:

James E. McCall died at his residence on Christmas Day, 1886. He came to Missouri from Virginia in 1834 and settled in Nine Mile Prairie Township, Missouri, where he resided for seven years. He then moved his home to Auxvasse Township, Missouri, where he was residing at the time of his death.
He was among the oldest settlers of the township. Most of those whom he associated with when he first came to this county having gone on before him to try the realities of another world.
In 1839 he was married to Angeline Gilbert, who was also from Virginia. They lived together for 42 years and raised 11 children.
James united with the Old Baptist Church in 1882 and lived the life of a devoted Christian to the time of his death.
His children assembled with their father in his last hours. He was a kind and loving father, a good neighbor and leaves many relatives and friends to mourn their loss.
His Christian life should be a guide to his children and relatives and they should endeaver to meet him in the better world.
