From Goodspeeds Biographies, published in 1889:
"Patrick Scott, an esteemed and popular citizen of Saline township, was born in St. Claire Couty, Ala., December 8, 1826, and is the son of William M Scott, one of the early settlers, having come here (Saline Co) in 1833.... married to Miss Jane Nelson. ... their marriage was belssed with nine children: A W (born Aug 8, 1850), Mary T (born Oct 4, 1852, died Feb 1 1857), John M (born October 17, 1854), Laura A (December 15, 1856 married Tarplay); Patrick H (born July 10, 1859) W C (born February 4, 1872, deceased May 8, 1885), Benjamin T (born March 17, 1864); R A (born February 12, 1867) and Samuel B (born Aug 27, 1869."

"He was the leading spirit in locating and securing the Salem camp-ground in 1867, which is probably one of the most noted places of that kind in the State,
and also helped to organize the Salem Church in 1859."

The Salem Camp Meeting, held annually in Saline Coounty, was begun in an area known as Scott Camp. In 1859 Patrick Scott along with his brother and neighbors built a small log church for regular church services. This was the beginning of the Salem Methodist Episcopal Church. Reverend Scott is recorded as the first member of the church. His death is also recorded in the church records, manner of death Bright's disease.

Personal Note:
In my genealogy research I have found many of the records of the Salem Methodist Church on microfilm at the History Commission Library in Little Rock.

My maternal great grandfather, Rev John Pinckney Alley, his wife Malinda Alley Jones and his children Milton, Willie, Nettie Alley Lane, Julie Effie Alley Lane, and stepson Felix Lane were recorded as early members of this church.

Reverend Scott wrote the obituary of John Pinckney Alley in 1891, which was published in the Arkansas Methodist Magazine.

Other members of the church were my paternal great great grandfather, Charles R Hutcheson and his wife Emma Hutcheson Scott (both buried at Scott Cemetery), daughter Jennie Hutcheson Scott (wife of JW Scott) , son Charles A Hutcheson and his wife Belle (Wall). Charles and Belle Hutcheson's oldest daughter Mary Fannie was baptized on September 20, 1892.
