Virgil Fay Chapman of 150 State St. died at 9:55 p.m. Wednesday at home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Columbkille's Church, with burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the EgelhofCasper Funeral Home, where the Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Mr. Chapman was born in Lowell, Ind. He was the city bacteriologist for many years, and taught special education in the Dubuque Community School District before retirirlg two years ago. He was a member of the National Retired Teachers' Association and the Milk Sanitarian Association.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Augusta Egelhof; a son, George F., and a daughter, Sharon A., hoth of Dubuque; four grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Vera Ahlgrim of Seal Beach, Calif.
