ARLINGTON, VA. - Alan Scott Wenban, age 35 of Arlington, VA died Sunday, September 12, 1999, unexpectedly.

Alan was born in Corning, NY on June 25, 1964, the son of James and Jean Nixson Wenban. He was a graduate of Corning-Painted Post West High School (1982), Corning Community College (1984), and received his B.S. and M.S. Degrees in Computer Engineering from Rensselaer Polyrtechnic Institute, Summa Cum Laude, and a Ph.D. in Computer and Electrical Engineering from Cornell University in 19979. Before returning to school for his Ph.D., he was employed by IBM in Owego as a Senior Associate Engineer. He was presently employed by the U.S. Patent Office in Arlington, VA as a Patent Examiner.

During his high school and college years, he enjoyed tennis, ping pong, bowling, and skiing. In the last few years he was unable to participate in these favorite pasttimes due to failing health and trauma to his arms and hands. He was a member of the Electrical and Electronics Engineers Eta Kappa Nu, and the Electrical Engineering Honor Society. He was preceded by his father James in 1994.

He is survived by his wife, Jing Huang of New York City; mother, Jean N. Wenban of Corning; two brothers, James Wenban of Wilsonville, OR and Thomas Wenban of Bath; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Friends may call on Thursday, September 16, 1999 from 6-8 PM at Phillips Funeral Home, Inc., 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning where Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 17 at 2:00 PM with the Reverend Judy White officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Painted Post.

Memorial donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
