Joseph J. DeCoux, age 87, of Faribault, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008, at the St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church at Sacred Heart in Faribault, with the Rev. Michael Kaluza officiating. Interment will be held at the Calvary Cemetery in Faribault.

Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday for one hour prior to services at the church. Parish prayers will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m.

Joseph James DeCoux, the son of Julius and Anna (Schema) DeCoux, was born on June 10, 1921, in Faribault. He was united in marriage to Lucille Chavie on Dec. 29, 1941, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Faribault. Lucille preceded him in death on June 23, 1979. On May 24, 1985, Joe married Irene Kvam in Brookings, S.D. Joe farmed in Walcott Township for 52 years and in retirement moved to Faribault in 1995. Joe enjoyed playing cards, dancing and spending time with family and friends. He was also very passionate about giving blood donations and donated many gallons of blood over the years. Joe was a member of the Faribault Aerie 1460 Fraternal Order of Eagles for 55 years.

He is survived by his wife, Irene DeCoux of Faribault; by four children, Michael DeCoux of Anoka, Minn., Janis (Harland) Spitzack of Pine River, Minn., Dennis DeCoux of Faribault, Minn., and Debra DeCoux, of Owatonna, Minn.; by seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; by a stepdaughter, Roseanne Eaton of Faribault and two stepgrandchildren; by his sister-in-law, Shirley DeCoux of Faribault; and by other relatives and friends.




He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Lucille; his four brothers, Frank, John, Albert and George DeCoux; by one sister, Agnes Bisping; and by one daughter-in-law, Ginger DeCoux.
