She is the wife of Richard Ephraim Bennion, beloved mother of Brenda (Mrs. John) Parker of Manteca, Rowland Bennion of Sacramento, Beverly (Mrs. Dennis) Cooper of Galt, and Richard Eaton Bennion of Elk Grove. She leaves 18 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and three step-great grandchildren.
Barbara is also survived by one niece, Colleen Slagle, and five nephews, Austin, Dale, John, Varl and Max Haws, that were especially close, having grown up with her. She also leaves numerous other nieces, nephews and a host of friends to remember her.
Barbara was born Nov. 10, 1922 in Vernal, the daughter of Byron Sagers Eaton and Lucilla Hadlock Eaton. She was predeceased by her parents and three sisters, Lena Haws, Mable Young and Roma Mathis. Her two brothers, Gordon and Charles Eaton who died at an early age.
She grew up in Vernal, graduating from Uintah High School in 1941 where she was a member of the Glee Club and Drama Club. She attended LDS Business College in Salt Lake City on a scholarship. She was a member of the Alpha Iota Sorority.
On Nov. 9, 1945 she married Richard Ephraim Bennion in the LDS Salt Lake Temple. They moved to California after their marriage and she spent the remainder of her life in California.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many leadership, music and teaching positions.
Barbara was an expert seamstress and cook. Her love of music included piano-playing, singing, and performing with many musical groups. She taught her children a love of music, evidenced through her descendants abilities and involvement in the arts. She was an avid reader and active in genealogical work with her children and grandchildren and for the LDS Church.
Of great merit was her extensive involvement in the lives and activities of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her glowing example will shine brightly forever for her family.
In lieu of flowers Barbara requested donations be made to the General Missionary Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
A private family graveside service was held at East Lawn Cemetery. A memorial service was held at the LDS Church in Sacramento on Dec. 27.
