Father of J.J. Stevinson.

Archibald was born in Clark County, Kentucky, where he received his education,
then migrated to Boone County, Missouri. He was a man of high intelligence and
primarily a farmer. There he married Charlotte Bright also of Kentucky and had
three children:
* James Johnson Stevinson
* Elizabeth Stevinson, Mrs March
* Charlotte Stevinson, Mrs Silman

Archibald conducted a business in trade traveling between Independence, Missouri
and Chihuahua, Mexico. When Charlotte died in 1833, he gave the custody of his
son and daughters to his brother, Samuel. Archibald finally set out for
California on April 10, 1849 and reached Los Angeles in July, setting up
business in Merced County where his son joined him after the Mexican war was
over, and they built the Stevinson ranch together, the most impressive home in
the area on the banks of the Merced River,surrounded by 25,000 acres. He died
there in 1883, aged seventy-nine.
